 Michael Jacob Castetter was born 09 September 1832 in Marion Co., Indiana, and died 10 December 1883 in Hamilton Co., Indiana.  He married SARAH ELIZABETH HEADY 29 March 1854 in Hamilton Co, IN., daughter of VINCENT HEADY and POLLY RICHARDSON.  She was born 15 November 1835 in Hamilton Co., Indiana, and died 17 February 1916 in Hamilton Co., Indiana.

Michael Castetter was first a farmer. He started by renting land but by 1860, he owned real estate valued at over $850.00. On 14 July 1862, he enlisted in Co. 1 of the 75th Indiana Regiment and served three years, being discharged 8 June 1865. At the time of his enlistment, there were four children living in his family, two having died young.

He served with distinction, being mustered out as a corporal. He was wounded at the battle of Chickamauga, 20 Sept 1863. His Captain, Mahlon H. Floyd spoke very highly of him and his contributions during the war. Michael.

On returning from the war, Michael Castetter continued his occupation as a farmer. He was quite successful in this occupation, but he branched out into other activities in later years. He is reported to be clearing ground for a brickyard in June of 1883 and in September is reported to be retiring from the grocery business.

During 1883, Michael Castetter had a new house build in Fishers Station, Hamilton County, Indiana. On the night of Dec 10, 1883, Michael Castetter died of a heart attack. His obituary describes his last hours as the doctor sat with him unable to do more than comfort him.
